The Context
History is a long-standing, widely taught subject. However, traditional, rote instruction often drains the joy from it. This project reimagines how people interact with history to reveal its beauty and spark curiosity.
User Research
To understand people's attitudes and preferences in history learning, I ran a survey with 42 participants across diverse demographics.
Result Analysis
I analyzed the survey data and translated key insights into a persona to serve as a proxy of the main user group—history learners.
Making History Fun
Research findings indicated a clear expectation for interactive and enjoyable history. As such, this became the project’s main design objective.
User Pain Points
From the research, 3 recurring pain points also emerged: many users struggle to retain their knowledge, find existing study formats rigid and non-interactive to keep them engaged, and lack guidance on what materials to choose.
Memory Difficulty
Poor Interactivity
Material Uncertainty

Learn Module
The "Learn" module is where users engage with structured study materials. It features a rich library of multimedia courses combining readings, visuals, and videos, rewarding learners with illustrated history figures as they progress.
Feature Walkthrough
Users begin on the Explore page browsing high-quality courses from trusted providers. After enrolling, they can interact with diverse learning formats on the course homepage, including visuals, readings, videos, and quizzes.

Quizzes are essential to history learning, but traditional products often rely on single-choice items, which feel dry and repetitive. Therefore, I ran a literature review to search for historian-backed, more interactive quiz formats.
Feature historical facts combined with visuals
Reflect the chronological order of events
Reveal where historical events unfolded
Visualize the family bonds between figures
Quiz Module
The "Quiz" module reinforces knowledge through visually-driven, interactive puzzles, from identifying hidden figures on flashcards to locating key events on maps, making history engaging and memorable.
Recognitions
Historiq’s visual, gamified approach to history learning was recognized by the international design community; in 2025, it received 10 global design awards.
